Overview

The Downtown Lumberton Master Plan Process began in September 2023 and is expected to be completed by December 2024. The three-phase process will be guided by an Advisory Committee as outlined below:

  • Phase One: Downtown Assessment
  • Phase Two: Downtown Workshops
  • Phase Three: Downtown Master Plan Development

This phase of the process will establish the foundation for preparing the Plan. It is important to complete a comprehensive analysis that can be presented for meaningful public engagement and input into the development of the Downtown Master Plan.  This phase will include small group listening sessions, a public kickoff meeting, a community-wide survey (400 responses received during October), and an analysis of background information.

The community will have three opportunities to participate in downtown workshops to develop the main issues and ideas to include in the future vision for Downtown.  The workshops will also provide an opportunity for evaluating downtown improvements and development scenarios. The meetings will take place at the following dates, times, and locations.

  1. July 25th from 6-8pm at 101 S Chestnut Street, Lumberton
  2. August 29th from 6-8pm at 101 S Chestnut Street, Lumberton
  3. September 24th from 6-8pm at 315 N Chestnut Street, Lumberton

After the downtown workshops were completed, the City, through funding from an ongoing brownfields project with Terracon, decided to evaluate the market potential of the proposed alternatives for opportunity sites prior to finalizing the Master Plan.  It is anticipated that the final document and implementation plan will be presented to City Council in the summer of 2026.
